A Fox, 2 Hawks, and an Eagle
I’ve heard the expression, “Sometimes a butterfly is just a butterfly." I don’t know about that. I do know that for some people I can be a little like if Pollyanna and Elf had a baby, but it works for me. I choose to believe in signs and miracles. I truly feel that the more I look, the more I see, and the more grateful I am for the signs that I see, the more spectacular they become!
One of the most commonly known signs for angelic presence is finding feathers in unexpected places. This makes sense. Although, I’ve never been one much for believing in such “rules”. The rules seem a bit arbitrary, so I put my own spin on them. For me, anytime I see a feather, I thank the angels for being near. As luck would have it, I own feather and down pillows, a down comforter, and down jackets. I see a LOT of feathers and every time I see them, I acknowledge angelic presence. Lest you think I’m being ridiculous, I assure the angels appreciate it and have started playing around with me. Of course I often see little feathers on or near my bed, but I laughed out loud the day I had been out and about with a little feather sticking out of my sweater at my shoulder blade. They were reminding me to be an Earth Angel and to be a blessing to the people I came into contact with that day. I
have found feathers in unexpected and encouraging places too. One day, after a challenging day at work, I found a white feather on the ground by my car door and was reminded that I was not alone. One day, while weeding, I had cleared a spot between a blue spruce and an oak tree in my back yard and taken the weeds over to the disposal bin. When I came back to where I had been a shimmer of blue caught my eye and I saw a perfect Blue Jay feather! Perhaps it had been upside down before, as the undersides are brown, but I delighted in my treasure and was glad that I had taken time to clear out the weeds that day. Blue Jay feathers can mean anything from good luck to protection to pay attention to messages from the spirit world. (This is a good spot to point out that blue jay, hawk, eagle, owl and song bird feathers are illegal to own by non-Native American per the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and punishable by up to $100, 000 and a year in jail.) All I know is that noticing that feather brought me an overwhelming feeling of awe and gratitude!
Yesterday morning I walked into my kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee and stopped by the big picture window for a moment. It was stupid-cold with a -20 wind chill outside and the fresh snow was particularly sparkly. All of a sudden, a red fox walked in through the gate and stopped to look my direction ! I called to my family that there was a fox in the yard and as they scrambled to come see, the fox turned on its heels and scampered back where it came from. What a miracle to be at the right place at the right time to see some of the wildlife that I know exists where I live, but have only seen a couple times. Foxes can symbolize good fortune, cleverness, and intelligence. I chose to believe that seeing the fox yesterday was a good omen and that by remembering to call my angels for help, I didn’t have to worry about anything the day may bring.
Today was a bird day. Angels often let us know they are nearby with winged creatures: birds, butterflies, dragonflies and the like. They can be specific messages or even specific loved ones, or they can be more generic - letting you know you’re protected and guided, or maybe to look at life from a higher perspective. Today as my husband and I drove about an hour south of our house we had not one, but two hawks fly across our path. It was encouragement that we were following guidance of angels to take the time to visit his uncle today. While we were at the rehab clinic there was a blue jay sitting outside the window in a tree. Blue Jays symbolize protection and kindness. On our trip back home we saw a Bald Eagle flying above our car. Bald Eagles are also symbolic of protection, guidance, and presence of higher powers.
I guess my point is this: I know that the feather:people ratio in my house is astronomical. I know that Minnesota is known for its lakes and the wild life habitats that continue to thrive, even with all the people that have moved into their natural spaces. I also know that I never noticed any of the feathers or many of the birds of the air around me before. Now I notice them. I look up their meanings….or I don’t. I check in with my body, my feelings, my intuition, and I thank the angels for being around me: for guiding me, for protecting me, for helping me to look up and look around. Life is a little more rich, a little more fun, and a whole lot more connected this way. I encourage you to look for signs and thank your angels. I know you will feel a little less alone on this earth.
With love, peace, and blessings,
Margaret Rose
