Going with the Flow
It’s been awhile since I’ve written, and while I knew that, I’m surprised to see the number of weeks it’s been. No worries. I’ve just been learning to go with the flow. It seems to be the theme for today and has shown up in various ways. In fact, I’m feeling like if I ignore it, I’ll be caught up in the undertow instead of blissfully floating on the waves on top. Growing up on the west coast, I’m quite familiar with the dangers of the undertow. It can be catastrophic to ignore the signs posted.
Life is like that. When we choose to ignore signs, no matter how clearly they are posted or show up in our lives, things tend to go awry. For example, a couple summers ago I got a new pair of Birkenstock sandals. I saw many people, including my children, walking miles in them with great comfort. I thought I could do the same. I noticed that I felt some stretching between my heel and my arch, but I still thought I could walk miles too. I tried it. Twice. Then, I had Plantar Fasciitis from August to March. Physical Therapy did not help me. In fact, it wasn’t until I started self-reiki everyday that I was able to walk and stand and sit pain-free. I noticed that trying to wear my Birks caused the “stretching sensation” to come back, so I “listened” and gave those sandals to my sister who wears them with much comfort and ease. When I notice that sensation now, I know it’s time to put on my Hokas and get my body back into alignment.
It’s the same with Spirituality Practice… or anything called “practice”. It’s not about getting things “perfect”, but it is about setting intentions and working toward “better”. We cannot FORCE things with any good fortune. Whether it’s wearing shoes that don’t fit your feet well because “everybody’s doing it”, or staying in any situation that isn’t serving your highest good because “it’s easier”, “it pays the bills”, “it used to be so good”, etc., you’re going to be in pain. And…the pain will not subside until you get into alignment, whether it’s your physical body or your chakras, or higher purpose. We all know there are no shortcuts to the most beneficial outcomes. Doing the work is required.
I know that water ebbs and flows. I also know it’s the same with life; with business, with relationships, with health. It’s fantastic to have to make huge deposits multiple times a week into my bank account. It’s also fantastic to have a break now and again so I have time to learn more, experience new things, and do more meditations and reflections. These don’t necessarily happen at the same time, and when I try to force the mode I’m not experiencing, nothing happens but frustration…and maybe illness. It’s usually about getting me to slow down, pay attention to the signs, and act accordingly.
There’s a “trick” to being intuitive - relax, ground, connect, and RECEIVE. If you have skipped a step, if you think you can force information to come to you, it absolutely won’t. The more we “want”, the more The Universe accepts that we “want”. The same goes with “needing”. However, when we are grateful for all the glorious abundance that we do have and for all that The Divine wants us to have and experience, we are blessed with more than we can imagine.
As humans, we want to control our lives. In fact, perhaps “micromanage” is a more accurate description of how we would prefer to live our lives, but where’s the lesson in that? We are here on Earth to learn and grow and evolve. We become our best selves when we learn to go with the flow, when we aren’t so intent on giving that we fail to receive, and when we do all the steps. Short cuts are merely detours (long cuts?) on the road of life.
For me, I must to slow down and pay attention to the signs. I must to ground and connect each day through meditation and journaling. I must continue my education and connection with those who have gone before me. There may not be shortcuts, but I also do not need to reinvent the wheel.
The best part about my card today, besides the serendipity of pulling it on a day when others were getting similar messages, was the part where the angel was holding his hand out and a dove had landed in it. The message is: pay attention to the signs, so you don’t get pulled under. Go with the flow and learn along the way. When you are open to receiving information, lessons, and gifts, a great peace will follow and gently rest upon you.
